In 97% duty carried condition we have a fine example of the very famous “FBI TEN” The Smith & Wesson Model 1076. This is a scarce pistol in it’s own right, only around 13,000 were ever made. This example is even rarer as its the special FBI model with no Magazine disconnector so that the pistol may still be fired without the magazine inserted.
This big mankiller pistol was the FBI’S first attempt at up-gunning following the famous FBI Miami Shootout of 1986. This attempt was not successful; it was too much gun for most agents and the full power loading was reduced to make the pistol more manageable for the average shooter. At this point it was decided that the reduced power load made sense but the hog leg size of the pistol was just too much of a burden to lug around all day on the job. This issue was answered with the .40 Smith & Wesson caliber which up until recently was the prevalent law enforcement service caliber. Recently there has been a resurgent interest in the 10mm and many makers produce handguns in this caliber. This is a very hard to find famous pistol and will be of extreme interest to both shooters and collectors.
