In 96% factory original finish, and not a rework, we have a very rare and seldom ever seen British Military purchased Colt 1911 Government Model in the original British .455 Webley calibre. The original .455 marked magazine is still with the pistol. This pistol comes with 9 packets of original British military issue .455 Webley ammunition, an absolutely impossible thing to locate these days in such a quantity. This pistol was shipped in late 1916 to the London Armory Company and is one of only 2,200 pistols so marked and shipped. The pistols were exclusively issued to the Royal Flying Corps for pilot use and certainly saw aerial combat over the trenches. They stayed in RAF inventory right through WW2. This example does not have any export markings so it was likely a WW2 vet bringback. This is a great WW1 Royal Flying Corps piece that will be of strong interest to any Colt or British Collector.
