In 98% mint crisp condition, we have a fairly rare 1942 production Smith & Wesson 5 inch barrel, .38 Special, Military & Police Revolver. This was a US Government purchased pistol right at the onset of WWII. Records from this time period are not complete, this pistol could have ended up with the Army, the Navy, the OSS, the FBI, or any other wartime security need. It has the marking R-314 on the rear gripstrap so it saw some wartime use, as this is either a rack or inventory number. This revolver also comes with an extremely rare Boyt 43 marked half flap holster made for 5 inch revolvers.
This would be a great piece to get a Smith Letter from to see if any light could be shed on it’s wartime service.
