In an outstanding for it’s age 98% mint crisp condition, we have an extremely rare and never seen this pristine 1908 Bergman Bayard Pistol. This should not be confused with the rare but more common Danish Military Model 1910 Bergman Bayard, the Model 1908 was the immediate predecessor of that famous pistol. The model 1908 was the Spanish Military Pistol from 1908 through 1916 and was the first pistol chambered in the 9mm Bayard or Largo caliber. All later Spanish Service Pistols were chambered in this potent round.
Our example is likely one of the trials pistols sent to Denmark for evaluations or it may be a straight up privately purchased commercial pistol. I would suspect it is a trials pistol because the mag is slight mismatched which is often seen in institutionally used pistols. This is a very attractive and elegant pistol and it much more attractive than the later model 1910. If you are a serous early automatic pistol collector this certainly needs to be in your collection.
