We have heard back from numerous folks about the recent Nations Gun Show held in Chantilly Virginia this past weekend and as you can imagine it was a bit of a shit show. Firstly the only motivation for even attending was that if you needed ammo or black guns you might be able to score some stuff from the little guys that only sell at shows and don’t sell online. They only let 500 people in at a time and you has to wait for hours to get in if you weren’t in that first group. As soon as the show opened they all headed towards the back and all the ammo was sold out in an hour or so. Let’s just say it was not a good scene for the high end collector gun crowd. We really want to start doing shows badly but its just not safe or sound yet…but we really want to dip our toes into that water!
There has been recently considerable collector interest in the firearms of the WWI era both long guns and pistols. This is definitely an intellectually driven pursuit, and as time passes I think that WWI & WWII will be increasingly viewed as one single event; as the first and second half of a ” global football game of war”, with the 1920’s-30’s viewed as halftime.
The WWI era and the small conflicts in its immediate aftermath in Eastern Europe have certainly caught my attention. We are getting a lot of requests for the arms of this period and they are selling very briskly on the site. To understand WWII you really have to understand and completely grasp WWI and its effect on the world situation. It is almost mind boggling to look at the myriad of competing forces and the small arms that they relied on during this conflict.
While “Artillery is the Queen of the battlefield” as Stalin once said, Rifles and Pistols bring us history on a very intimate and personal level as these small arms are what the actual participants used to keep themselves alive in both attack and defense. They were certainly the most important tools needed on a daily basis and that is what captures our imagination today by collecting them. They are truly objects that convey and evoke much feeling and curiosity in us. When you hold an Enfield Rifle it puts you right into the trenches in spirit.
Please make an appointment if you are stopping by the office. All our inventory is vaulted up and we just do not have the time these days for dog and pony shows as we have reduced staff in the office. We are more than happy to pull something for you to look at if you have an interest we just need to know in advance and don’t mind a visit.
PLEASE STAY SAFE AND SOCIALLY RESPONSIBLE AND WEAR A FREAKING MASK!!!
