In 97% very sharp all matching condition, we have a very scarce US Army Issued Smith & Wesson Military & Police Revolver in .38 Special Caliber with a 5 inch barrel. This is one of 300 revolvers shipped to the US Army Ravenna Ohio Ordnance Depot in the fall of 1941. This is not a victory model or a pre-victory model it is a standard Military procured M&P.
Very few handguns were purchased by the Military prior to America’s entry into the war in December of 1941 so this is an extremely good find for the serious US Martial Arms Collector. It is believed that these revolvers were used for security for the Army’s Civilian Construction units who built bases in the early days of the war.
