Description

In very good all matching original condition, we have a scarce and seldom seen Belgian Army WWI FN made Modele 1889/16 carbine in 7.65mm.  These carbines were made of earlier models converted to this standard configuration plus some new ones made in Birmingham and by Hopkins and Allen.  Our example was built at Calais.  The bore is excellent and it still has the correct scarce original sling as well.

The Wartime Modele 89/16 carbine was adopted to standardize all carbines made and being made to this standard configuration.  Many earlier carbines were rebuilt to this standard and this is likely one of those examples.  This carbine was used extensively in WWI and stayed in service right through WWII with the Belgian Army.  After the WWII surrender of Belgium in 1940 the Germans reissued these carbines in large numbers in the original caliber.  Today this is a very scarce item especially in all matching condition.
