IN 97% VERY SHARP ORIGINAL CONDITION WITH ALL CORRECT PARTS INCLUDING THE MAGAZINE, AND ALL THE PROPER S MARKED SMALL PARTS, WE HAVE AN VERY FINE 100% ORIGINAL TEXTBOOK EXAMPLE OF AN EARLY PRODUCTION SPRINGFIELD ARMORY 1911 US ARMY SERVICE PISTOL. THIS PISTOL WAS MADE ON NOVEMBER 14, 1914. IT HAS THE LONG HAMMER AND IS A MUSEUM GRADE EXAMPLE OF AN EARLY PRODUCTION PISTOL. THE ONLY PART ON THIS PISTOL THAT WE ARE NOT SURE OF IS THE BARREL, IT IS A WWI SPRINGFIELD ARMORY BARREL BUT WE THINK IT DATES FROM 1917. IT MAY HAVE BEEN A FIELD REPLACEMENT OR THE GUN JUST MAY HAVE LEFT THE ARMORY AT A LATER DATE. IF THIS HAD THE TEXTBOOK CORRECT BARREL FOR IT WE WOULD NOT TAKE A DIME LESS THAN $8500 FOR IT.
WHILE VERY WELL MADE THEY ARE NOT PRETTY GUNS LIKE THE COLTS, THEY HAVE A MUCH DULLER BLUE-GRAY LESS POLISHED FINISH WHICH GIVES THEM A DISTINCTIVE DULL LOOK. THE BORE IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION AS WELL. THESE SPRINGFIELD MADE GUNS ARE VERY PROBLEMATIC TO COLLECT BECAUSE MOST WERE USED HARD AND HAVE NO CONDITION AND ON TOP OF THAT, THEY ALMOST NEVER HAVE ALL THE FACTORY ORIGINAL PARTS LIKE THIS EXAMPLE DOES. THIS IS MUCH NICER THAN WE USUALLY SEE THEM AND EVERY PART ON IT IS FACTORY ORIGINAL. IT HAS BEEN A WHILE SINCE WE WERE ABLE TO LOCATE SUCH A NICE EXAMPLE OF THIS RARE AND HARD TO FIND 1911 PISTOL.
