Description

This is not only a historical artifact per say, but it is also a very well executed piece of Traditional Japanese Art of very high aesthetic merit.  We have a Traditonal, hand made Japanese Army Officers Shin Gunto Sword.

This sword was hand made and was dated August 18, 1942 in the traditional fashion by the noted One Million Yen Smith, Ota Chikahide of Shizouka Prefecture.  He worked from 1926-1989 and was born in 1893.  He won first seat in the 6th National Sword Competition in 1941, so this guy was highly regarded for his workThe blade is a very long 27 inches in excellent polish with a very active and highly elaborate temper line reminiscent of two fingers of flame in a repeating pattern.   There are no nicks on the blade and the temper line really pops visually.

Overall this is a premier example of Japanese WW2 Military Sword, as nice as one could expect without paying into the tens of thousands. This is not only an iconic artifact of the Pacific War and of the Empire of Japan, but also a stunning piece of swordcraft and a thing of great beauty and craftsmanship.
