This rifle was recently found in an estate in Toledo Ohio. It was combat carried and used by Pvt John M. Leslie of the 117th Infantry Regt, 30th Division. during WW1. He was part of the American Expeditionary Force and this gun was in combat in France. This unit was involved in fighting at Ypres, and was Instrumental in the breech of the Hindenburg Line in October 1918 that led to the Armistice. This is a fairly extensive grouping that includes the 1909 RIA bayonet, the Mills 1916 dated Eagle Snap Cartridge Belt, the RIA 1918 Carlisle Kit, the 1918 dated canvas rifle bag, the RIA 1911 dated sling and two ID disks actually made out of French coins, one copper and one silver. This whole set up would be very meaningful to any serious WW1 collector.
In excellent minus combat used condition with a mint bore, we have a June, 1909 dated Rock Island Arsenal made Model 1903 Springfield Rifle. The rifle has the original cartouched stock and early flat top handguard. This is very much exactly the type of rifle that any doughboy would be lucky enough to have been issued, a much light and more handy rifle than the P17 US Enfield rifle.
