This is the only chance you will ever have to own one of these elusive rifles and add it to your collection; they do not exist…..In all matching filthy, rough been in Africa condition, we have the very well known and sought after Gew 98 Mauser Kolonial Service Schutzetruppe Rifle. This is an all matching 1902 Danzig Gew 98 Service Rifle that was sent to German South West Africa (Namibia) to fight in the Herero Rebellion and subsequently modified to accept the “S” spitzer bullet and at the same time have the rear sight adjusted to 200 meters and the bolt bent down to be carried by the mounted infantry of the Schutzetruppe, who were all mounted.  Almost all of these rifles were destroyed in the fighting in the colony in 1915 during WW1.  Only a handful are known to even exist and this is a definitive textbook example.  This rifle is thought to have come out of Africa after many many years but we are not certain of the circumstances of its arrival on these shores.  Its filthy, it needs tender care but that’s the job of the future buyer and caretaker of this rare artifact.  This rifle is probably about as exotic and romantic as a Gew 98 will ever get.  You will never see another one for sale.
