IN 96+%  VERY SHARP ORIGINAL CONDITION, WE HAVE AN EXCEEDINGLY RARE AND HIGHLY SOUGHT AFTER BLUED 1939 COLT 1911A1 GOVERNMENT PISTOL THAT WAS SHIPPED BY COLT’S ON DECEMBER 18, 1939 TO THE U.S. NAVAL SUPPLY DEPOT AT SEWELL’S POINT, VIRGINIA.  THIS PISTOL IS 100% CORRECT AND ORIGINAL, IT HAS THE MATCHING NUMBERED SLIDE AND THE CORRECT SMALL G COLT MILITARY BARREL.  THE TOP OF THE FRAME ALSO BEARS THE R IN OVAL INSPECTION MARK OF MAJOR CHARLES REED.

IN 1924 THE US ARMY ORDERED 10,000 OF THE NEW MODEL 1911A1 PISTOL AND AFTER THAT NONE WERE ORDERED UNTIL 1937-1940 WHEN SMALL ORDERS WERE PLACED EACH YEAR GOING SPECIFICALLY EITHER TO THE ARMY OR THE NAVY.  BECAUSE OF THE EXTREMELY LOW NUMBERS THAT WENT INTO GOVERNMENT SERVICE THEY ARE THE MOST SOUGHT AFTER US MARTIAL PISTOLS OF THE 2OTH CENTURY BY ADVANCED SERIOUS COLLECTORS.

THIS IS A TEXTBOOK EXAMPLE OF AN VERY RARE PRE-WAR 1939 NAVY COLT.   ONLY 3,636 PISTOLS WERE MADE FOR THE GOVERNMENT IN 1939 AND MOST ARE SITTING AT THE BOTTOM OF THE PACIFIC IN THE BRINE FILLED ARMS ROOMS OF NAVY SHIPS LOST IN BATTLE.    THIS IS AN EXCEPTIONALLY NICE EXAMPLE OF A VERY RARE PISTOL.  I HARDLY NEED TO TELL YOU THAT THESE PRE-WAR MILITARY COLTS ARE THE ABSOLUTE APEX OF 20TH CENTURY MILITARY HANDGUNS.  THIS IS A RARE CHANCE TO OWN AN ICONIC PIECE OF WW2  US NAVAL HISTORY.  ONLY A SMALL HANDFUL OF THESE PISTOLS EXIST IN THIS TOP CONDITION.
