This is a neat local find, it was said to have been recovered from the battlefield at Fishers Hill Virginia in 1864 and was sitting in various houses in Strasburg Virginia since that time. It is an actual relic of the Valley Campaign of 1864. This is an 1863 dated Merrill Carbine in top condition with a mint bore and a very crisp cartouche in the wood. The action is tight and everything is solid. The Merrill carbine was one of the more commonly used Federal Cavalry carbines during the Civil war, but they are hard to find this nice. This is a Pre98 Antique, no license is required.
