In 97% very sharp condition all matching down to the grips (which often do not) we have an early 1942 production US NAVY issued S&W Victory Model Revolver in .38 Special caliber. These early Navy revolvers were engraved “Property of US Navy” and painted red, hence the term “RED LETTER NAVY“. This is the classic 4 inch barrel variant. The Red Letter Navy Victory Model is the most sought after variant of the Victory model by collectors.
This is a prime example of THE US Navy sidearm of WW2 and were carried by Naval air crew and those in need of protection on the shore. This is the sidearm carried by Presidents John Kennedy and George HW Bush during their wartime Navy Service. Truly an iconic symbol of the carrier war of the Pacific Theater of Operations and US Naval Aviation.
