In excellent all matching condition, we have a later 1943/44 production GustloffWerke Manufactured Mauser KKW .22 LR Military Training Rifle. This is also unit marked to an SA SturmAbteilung unit where it would have been used to train and familiarize students with a close copy of the K98k Rifle. These rifles were produced by slave labor at the Buchenwald Concentration Camp.
At the end of the war .22 rifles such as this were very popular war trophies to bring back as every American boy loves a .22; and these were readily familiar and often used rifles for plinking and small game hunting back home. Still a very useful rifle today but perhaps a bit heavy to drag into the woods by todays standards.
