In excellent condition, we have a visually stunning, exceptional example of a Bavarian Issued Amberg Arsenal 1917 dated Gew.98 Rifle. The stock is an exhibition grade full tiger striped walnut that puts this rifle in the category of 20th century industrial art masterpiece. The rifle is totally matching and has a mint bore. what makes this even more desirable is that it is marked to the “EWB”, the Einwohnerwehr Bayern a Bavarian para-military anti-communist Friekorps, which were a quasi govermental Proto-Nazi Police force/Goon Squad, which operated from 1918 to 1921 that suppressed the communist forces and maintained order in Munich. This group evolved from the Friekorps to the Nazi party. Very likely this rifle stayed in the hands of an early Nazi party member or apparatus, until it was brought back from WW2. This is certainly the most attractive looking Gew 98 I have ever seen or heard of.
