SOLD IMPORTANT, US NAVY STRATEGIC SERVICES SHIPPED (OSS), SMITH & WESSON VICTORY MODEL .38 SPECIAL REVOLVER, USED BY MARITIME OSS & UDT UNITS!

In 95% combat carried condition, all matching except the grips, (which you rarely see matching on these) we have a 1944 production Smith & Wesson Victory Model Revolver in .38 special with the standard 4-inch barrel.   What makes this pistol so UNUSUAL is the Smith Factory letter which indicates that it was shipped to a very special place in the Navy and not through the normal navy procurement channels.  On August 22, 1944 this revolver was shipped to the US Navy Strategic Service in Norfolk, VA.  This is the Maritime Unit of the OSS and would consist of Navy Frogmen, the UDT squads and special Naval Infiltration units.  

This is the only Factory lettered Navy issued Smith that we have ever seen with this shipping destination, probably because a lot of this information remains classified it took a bit of research to suss out exactly the what the Navy Strategic service was.
