In 96% original very sharp extremely attractive condition, we have a 1916 production Springfield Armory M1911 Service Pistol. This pistol came from the descendants of Captain James M. Page of the US Army Corps of Engineers who carried this pistol in France during WWI. Amazingly there are photos of Captain Page in France during the war and also some associated paperwork as well that really add depth and allure to this pistol. His Overseas Cap bearing his rank and his victory medal are also included.
This is a 100% factory correct completely orthodox textbook example, to include the Springfield Armory made Magazine. All small parts are correctly marked with the “s“ as they are supposed to be. This pistol was produced in the middle months of 1916 probably in the summer of that year. The bore is decent. Springfield Armory made exactly 25,767 pistols and only 1,564 were produced in 1916, making this piece extremely rare. This is an extremely rare and highly sought-after example of the US Army service pistol as they were made at the Armory. Springfield Pistols are very tough to locate this nice looking, the finish was different than on the Colt made examples it is duller and of a more blue-gray color. Because of this most of these pistols don’t age very well but this example really pops!
We rarely ever get WWI era 1911’s of such rarity and so well documented as to their wartime use. This is a must own pistol for any serious 1911 or WWI collector.
