Description

In excellent condition, and all matching including the dust cover, we have an early initial production Toyo Kogyo Arsenal made 30th Series Japanese Type 99 Service Rifle. This rifle has rarely seen capture papers  and was brought back by a sgt in the AAF 6TH EMERGENCY RESCUE SQUADRON.  It  comes with extensive documentation and research about this very unusual Army Air Force Rescue Squadron that rescued downed pilots in the pacific theater from 1944 till the end of the war.  All of this information is relatively unknown and extremely fascinating!!!

This rifle is a scarce complete, very early initial production Toyo Kogyo 30th series Type 99 Rifle, it was the standard 7.7 m/m Japanese rifle of the Pacific War.  Although it never fully replaced the 6.5 m/m Type 38 rifle In the Japanese Army it was the most commonly encountered rifle outside of the China Theater.
This is a very early production rifle and has all of the early features such as the monopod and the antiaircraft craft sights. It is totally matching down to the dust cover!   This is exactly what you are looking for if you want a main line Japanese Army battle rifle.  Of course you never have to worry about a bad bore on one of these rifles as the bore was chrome plated.  The Type 99 rifle was a very innovative design for a bolt action rifle, and while it may have been a dated and obsolete design by the standard of the semi auto rifles such as the Garand, it was very well suited for tropical service in harsh jungle conditions and it was a prized war trophy.  This is a great example of an early production Type 99 from one of the rarer manufacturers.

Scotty’s Collector Insights….This is one of the finest looking type 99 rifles I have seen, and one of just a handful of Japanese rifles we have seen that still retains the bring back war trophy papers.  On top of that the guy thst brought it back was in a very unusual Army Air Corps Rescue unit that saved thousands of men during the war.  Certainly one of the most significant Japanese Rifles we have ever placed on offer!
