This is a pretty significant Japanese Rifle. In very sharp combat captured condition, we have an extremely early 1939 production,(#289) Nagoya 1st Series Type 99 Service Rifle. This is so early it has all of the features of the initial NO series, in that it is set up as a cavalry short rifle with the rare oval sling only seen on the No series and the earliest 1st series rifles. This is totally matching to include the matching dust cover as well, so this is a highly significant specimen of the earliest Type 99 variant. The stock is very nice and the cartouches are very sharp. Finding a rifle this early and this complete is a huge big deal for the serious Japanese Rifle collector.
