In 95% condition, we have AN EXTREMELY RARE Danish Military Issue M1910/21 Bergmann-Bayard Pistol as made in 1922 and marked Haerens Tojhus. This is from the initial 1922-24 production on only 900 pistols and is in fact the 18th example produced at the state arsenal in Copenhagen. The pistol is all matching except the mag with a very sharp bore . The M1908-10 series of Bergmann-Bayard Pistols were the sidearm of the Danish armed forces from 1908-1946 and it was a well-made and reliable weapon at the time with the powerful 9mm Bayard or Largo loading.
After WWI the Danes needed additional side arms and the previous manufacturer of this pistol Pieper, was no longer in business. Manufacture was begun at the State Arsenal in Copenhagen, the first 900 being marked Haerens Tojhus and manufactured from 1922-24 and a second batch of 1904 pistols being made in 1924-26 and being marked Haerens Rustkammer. These pistols were numbered right where Pieper left off with number 4840; this pistol is numbered 4858/RKV 18, indicating it was the 18th pistol made in the first batch.
When the Nazis rolled into Denmark in April, 1940 most of these sidearms were surrendered to the German forces and were then reissued to occupying forces; especially the Luftwaffe who issued these pistols to nco’s. Any serious collection of WWII era handguns cannot be complete without this Danish pistol and this is a much nicer and more complete example than you will often see. This is absolutely the rarest and most desirable of the Danish Bayard Pistols.
