In 95% very sharp condition, we have an early Colt 1911 U.S. Army Service Pistol that was shipped at the end of 1912, the first year of production!!! Â Factory records show this pistol was shipped to Springfield Armory on December 21, 1912. Â It retains its original Colt factory finish and has many of the early features including the round-top rear sight, “circled rampant colt” at the rear of the slide, 1911 final patent date on the side, and short hammer. All of the various parts are correct for this period of production. Frank Hosmer’s provisional inspection marks are all the proper block style “H” and appear at the rear of the slide, top of the frame, and stamped vertically at the rear of the barrel hood (as it should be). The recoil spring guide is correct with the sharp legs and the early recoil spring plug is also correct with the rectangle shaped spring retainer punch. The stocks are correct and so is the rare keyhole magazine.
The WGP inspector’s mark is clearly struck through the finish, a strong indicator of original finish. The diamond checkered stocks are in good condition with normal wear but no cracks or chips. This pistol is in good mechanical condition and functions properly. This pistol comes with a RARE & correct lanyard loop “keyhole” magazine.
This is a wonderful example of a very early US Army Colt 1911 with a lot of condition and complete originality and is a must have example for any serious Colt 1911 enthusiast.
Scotty’s Collector Insight…if you collect Colts this is a very important early military issue example of the 1911.  That this pistol is still intact and in top collector condition is a minor miracle.  Just a wonderful gun with some snout wear to tell you it’s been carried in harms way.  Think of all the history this gun has seen through many wars protecting our country and killing our enemies.
