In excellent very sharp original condition, we have a rare & highly desirable British WWI Royal Navy B.S.A. Lee Speed .303 Sporting Rifle.   In 1914 at the outbreak of War, the Royal Navy walked in and requisitioned this very rifle right off the shelf of a 1st class London Gun Dealer, along with all other .303 rifles. These Rifles were Royal Navy marked N.No.4.S.C. ⇑ (broad Arrow) and were issued to Armed Trawlers converted to Minesweeping and also to anti U Boat Q-ships and various other of His Majesty’s Naval Vessels.  The primary use of these rifles was to detonate detected German Sea Mines that were floating on the surface by shooting the protruding Hertz Horn that would explode the mine if it contacted the side of a ship. Of course you could also use these rifles to shoot the deck gun crew of a surfaced U-Boat.
As you can certainly imagine, the use of these rifles is something the imagination can run away with and they are certainly among the most adventurous of Rifles used during the Great War on the high seas combating the rakish piratical efforts of the Kaiser and his Navy.
