Description

In 98%  mint crisp condition, we have a very rough looking and highly desirable 1944 production Spreewerke cyq code P.38 pistol.   This pistol is from the “w” production block and has the cog hammer.  It is  totally matching with a mint bore and the original eagle/88 marked magazine.  The rough machining is very pronounced on the  slide and is considered highly desirable by collectors of these Czech made pistols.  You may also notice the very rich deep blue finish of this pistol which they were known for.  While Spreewerke made P.38’s  are certainly common enough, the cog hammer variants are nice to have and are much harder to find than the typical production variants.

Spreewerke was located in Czechoslovakia not far from the German Border and they were the second firm to produce the P.38 and began producing them before Mauser got into the act.  The plant was heavily reliant on involuntarily conscripted foreign workers who were not skilled machinists.  This caused a lot of variation in the external finish but the function was not affected.  This is a very fine example of the 1944 production and would be a great addition to any collection.
