In 98% mint crisp stunning condition, we have a top example of a pre war Colt 1911a1 US Army Service Pistol. Â This pistol was shipped to Springfield Armory on October 10,1941 just a few months before the Japanese Attack at Pearl Harbor. Â This pistol is 100% factory original; the slide is matching it has the correct Colt hollow back grips and the small G Colt marked barrel that has a decent but not mint bore. Â It would be very tough to find a better example. Â 1941 was the last year that Government pistols were made in low production numbers and they are much scarcer than the later WB and GHD inspected pistols of 1942-1945. Â Robert Sears inspected guns are highly sought after by collectors and they rarely show up this nice.
This pistol was combat issued to Army Air Corps 1st Lt Leo F Duggan in 1942, During WW2 he was a B-17 pilot, and was highly decorated, with the Distinguished Flying cross and the Air Medal with 2 oak leaf clusters. He retired from the Airforce in 1968 at the rank of Colonel. He went to the great airfield in the sky in 2015.  The Pistol was obtained from his son just this weekend. Â
