IN VERY GOOD + CONDITION,WE HAVE A VERY SCARCE STRAIGHT UP WW1 ISSUE EDDYSTONE REMINGTON ARSENAL MADE MODEL 1917 US SERVICE RIFLE IN 30-06. THIS IS IN ORIGINAL CONDITION, WITH ALL PARTS CORRECTLY MARKED WITH THE EDDYSTONE “E“. THE BORE IS EXCELLENT AS WELL. THIS RIFLE HAS NOT BEEN REBUILT OR REWORKED POST WW1. THE BARREL DATE IS OCT, 1918, JUST ONE MONTH BEFORE THE WAR ENDED. BY THE END OF WW1, 3/4THS OF THE US EXPEDITIONARY FORCE IN EUROPE WAS ARMED WITH THE MODEL 1917 RIFLE. IT CAME VERY CLOSE TO COMPLETELY REPLACING THE 1903 SPRINGFIELD AS OUR SERVICE RIFLE. SERGEANT YORK USED THIS RIFLE IN HIS FAMOUS EXPLOITS, HE CALLED IT “THE BRITISH RIFLE“. THIS IS THE TYPE OF RIFLE HE DRILLED 30 GERMANS WITH. THESE STRAIGHT UP WW1 ISSUED ORIGINAL CONDITION RIFLES ARE ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO LOCATE. NEARLY ALL OF THESE RIFLES WERE REWORKED AFTER WW1 AND MOST HAVE MIXED UP PARTS AS WELL. MANY MORE WERE REWORKED DURING WW2 SO FINDING AN ORIGINAL AS WW1 ISSUED RIFLE IS NOT EASY. THESE RIFLES WENT BACK INTO SERVICE DURING WW2 MANY WERE SHIPPED TO OUR ALLIES AND THEY WERE USED BY US AS WELL. THIS IS AN ORIGINAL EXAMPLE OF THE RIFLE THAT WAS REALLY USED “OVER THERE ” DURING THE GREAT WAR.
