Description

In 92% factory original finish, and not a rework, we have a very rare and seldom ever seen British purchased Colt 1911 Government Model in the original British .455 Webley calibre.  This pistol has the very desirable RAF marking indicating issue and use by the Royal Air Force.  These pistols were used to arm pilots in both wars and very likely this pistol saw service during the Battle of Britain.  This pistol was shipped to the British in the later part of 1918, and bears the inspection cartouche of G.W.R. Stedman, The British ordnance inspector at the Colt Factory.  The pistol is still factory original and has not been arsenal re furbished as most of these pistols were.  The original “W” marked .455 barrel in in place as is a correct .455 marked magazine.  These pistols are highly sought after due to there association with the RAF.  They served in both World Wars and saw a lot of combat.  This pistol witnessed a lot of aerial combat.  Pfrobably one of the best RAF items one could own.
