Description

IN 95% ORIGINAL EXCEPTIONAL CONDTION FOR WHAT IT IS, WE HAVE AN OUTSTANDING EXAMPLE OF A VERY RARE 1905 COLT .45 AUTOMATIC PISTOL. THIS WAS THE FIRST SUCESSFULL .45 AUTOMATIC AND THE FATHER OF THE COLT 1911. APPROXIMATELY 6000 OF THESE PISTOLS WERE PRODUCED AND FEW SURVIVE TODAY AND EVEN FEWER WITH ANY CONDITION. THIS IS A MIDDLE PRODUCTION PISTOL AND IT IS BELIEVED BY FORMER OWNER TO HAVE BEEN PURCHASED BY AN ARMY OFFICER FOR USE IN THE PHILLIPINES. THIS IS LIKELY THE CASE AS IT HAS BEEN HANDED DOWN OVER SEVERAL GENERATIONS OF US ARMY OFFICERS. WHEN IT WAS MANUFACTURED AT THE COLT FACTORY IT WAS INSPECTED BY JAMES DONLIN (6) AND ASSEMBLED BY WILSON KAY (3), PER THE COLT FACTORY MARKINGS. LET ME SAY THE THE PISTOL IS IN EXCEPTIONAL CONDITION FOR A MODEL 1905 AND IT HAS A DECENT BORE. THE HIGH POLISH FINISH ON THESE COLTS IS VERY FRAGILE AND TO FIND ONE THIS WELL TAKEN CARE OF OVER A HUNDRED YEARS IS JUST FANTASTIC. WE SEE VERY FEW OF THESE PISTOLS AND THEY ARE ALMOST ALL WELL WORN TO A DULL GRAY. THE TRIGGER AND EXTRACTOR STILL HAVE MOST OF THE BRIGHT FIRE BLUE AS WELL. THIS IS QUITE A REMARKABLE PIECE AND WOULD MAKE A KEY ADDITION TO ANY ADVANCED GUN COLLECTION OR GUN 401K.
