In excellent all matching mint crisp condition, we have a 1947 dated British Lee Enfield Rifle No5 Mk1, the very well known Jungle Carbine. This is all matching, and the bore is mint. This was made at the at the Royal Ordnance Factory in Fazerkley. While we call this the Jungle Carbine, the rifle was actually designed for use by airborne troops in Europe. You will notice the special rear sight graduated only to 800 yards and the hollow bolt handle only used on this model.
Production of this model began in late 1944 but it never really saw combat anywhere but the Pacific Theater. The most famous use of the weapon was in the Malaysian Emergency of the late 1940’s where they saw considerable action. The model was discontinued in 1947. Today there are a lot of cobbled together fakes on the market but they are not anything like the genuine item. If you are looking for a war dated early production Jungle Carbine in mint all matching condition, you just found it!
