Description

In 97% factory original condition, Still chambered in .455 Webley, we have an all matching 1917 dated Webley “WS Target Revolver”.   This very fine revolver has the 7.5-inch barrel and a very smooth action with a great trigger in both double and single action.  This revolver was almost certainly officer used during WWI and probably for long after. It certainly has been well cared for.

During WWI in the British & Commonwealth countries handguns were in such short supply that many were sourced from America’s Colt and Smith & Wesson, but even this did not meet their needs and these dried up with America’s entry into the war.  To show  how desperate the British were for handguns, they even placed orders for somewhat rickety Spanish made double action revolvers Chambered in .455 Webley  which were purchased in large quantities.  When you look at this finely made Webley revolver in that context, it certainly makes it much more attractive to carry than the sketchy Spanish made alternatives.  The only difference from the standard service issued Mark VI was a longer barrel and better sights.  Come to think about it these easily could be desirable features in trench warfare.  I certainly would have been happy if I had to wield it in a trench raid.

If you collect Webley’s this is a hard one to find!
