Description

In 94% condition, we have a US WWI issued Colt Model of 1911 US Army Service Pistol.  This is the famous “Black Army” variant which is a mid to late 1918 production Pistol with the rougher polish and the black oxide finish that is extremely non-durableThis pistol was shipped from Colt on July 5, 1918 to the Depot at Bush Terminal New York for immediate shipment to France. This pistol has almost certainly seen combat in the trenches of WWI.  It just came out of the woodwork with a completely to hell and back WWI holster and belt which are also included.     As you see with this example, a significant amount of finish deterioration has occurred on the slide.  This is not attributable to wear but to the unsuccessful surface treatment of the Black Oxide finish.

This pistol is 100% correct and original and the bore is excellent.  It was one of thousands shipped to France in July, 1918 and was vet brought back from that war.  It is a very attractive “Combat Salty” Colt.

Scotty’s Collector insight…Most dealers would try to get 3k for this pistol and it would probably bring close to that on the auction sites.  We normally only carry mint crisp examples but this is an honest been there done that doughboy carried piece that has a lot more character than finish.  If this thing could speak….
