IN 96% ORIGINAL VERY ATTRACTIVE CONDITION WE HAVE A VERY DESIRABLE BLUED PRE WAR PRODUCTION CSR INSPECTED COLT 1911A1 US ARMY SERVICE PISTOL. THE PISTOL IS TOTALLY MATCHING AND 100% CORRECT AS PER CLAWSON. THIS CHARLES S. REED INSPECTED PISTOL WAS PART OF A SHIPMENT OF 1,500 GUNS THAT WERE DELIVERED TO SPRINGFIELD ARMORY ON JANUARY 30, 1941. THIS WAS THE FIRST SHIPMENT OF 1941 ALTHOUGH THIS PISTOL WAS LIKELY MANUFACTURED IN LATE 1940. IT IS ONE OF THE VERY LAST OF THE CSR INSPECTED PISTOLS.
IT IS INTERESTING TO NOTE THAT THIS GUN HAS WOODEN GRIPS AS MANY OF THE 1940 PRODUCTION GUNS HAVE THE EARLY COLT ROCK GRIPS. IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT MOST LATE PRODUCTION 1940 GUNS HAVE WOOD GRIPS WHICH WOULD INDICATE THAT THE USAGE OF COLT ROCK GRIPS WAS NOT FULLY INTEGRATED AT THE TIME AND THEY WOULD SOON BE REPLACED WITH THE MORE DURABLE COLT WOOD. THIS IS A VERY DESIRABLE PISTOL AS ANY BLUED US MARTIAL 1911A1 IS QUITE RARE AND NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND IN THIS ORIGINAL CONDITION AS MOST WERE LOST IN THE WAR AND WHAT FEW SURVIVED WERE MOSTLY REBUILT.
