Description

Here is a rifle that advanced German Mauser collectors will find fascinating.…In very good plus all matching reworked condition we have a very seldom seen BS marked Gew98b conversion from a 1907 Mauser Gew 98 Rifle.  Based open the information gleaned from the rifle it was Reworked at the Berlin/Spandau Depot (BS)  and this was done at least once and may well have been reworked twice to be brought up to Gew 98b standards with the updated rear sight to handle the heavy Ss Ball and the bent bolt handle.  These BS marked rifles are rarely found in matching original condition such as this exmaple so this is a real find.

At the outbreak of WWII in 1939 The army had long phased these rifles out of service but they were still very commonly used by the Waffen SS and pictures of use by these troops in combat are common.  This is a great example of a rifle from the time of Germany’s rapid military buildup prior to WWII.
