Description

In 97% very sharp condition, we have a very scarce 1921 production DWM “Alphabet” German Army Luger Pistol.  This was a direct Wiemar Army Order, it has the early “Dove” acceptance proofs.  These pistols are found in a separate serial number range from the commercial production and are found in the no letter block and a & b  letter block serial ranges.  They were assembled in 1920-21 primarily out of new made parts but also some old parts as well.  This example is all matching, even the magazine, and the bore is mint.

Most of the DWM Alphabet variation were commercial or made for the police, few are just army marked.  These Army Pistols likely ended up in the hands of the Waffen SS in the later 1930’s as the army was passing off the older equipment to the SS.  This is a great pistol for the Weimar, or Early Nazi/SS collector of the type of Luger that was available in the early days of the Weimar era and the Nazi era.

Scotty’s Collectors Insight…Wiemar era Lugers are not nearly as popular or well understood compared to the WWI & II associated pistols, most them are the dirt common .30 cal commercial Lugers and the police marked Lugers, many of which are known as “sneak Lugers.  This Army marked Luger is quite scarce, very few were made as the need at the time was not significant.  This is a pretty important piece for the Luger Collector and s great piece to bridge the gap between the Imperial and the Nazi Lugers.  Having a matching mag is a real plus for this example.
