In excellent condition, we have a visually stunning, exceptional example of a Spandau Arsenal 1901 Mauser Gewehr 98 Service Rifle. This rifle is unit marked to a very well known unit, the 6th Reserve Guard Fusiliers Regiment. The rifle is totally matching down to the screws. This is beleived to have been a WWI war trophy. It is nearly impossible to find such an early and all matching Gew 98 in this stunning condition, let alone one that is marked to an important unit. Certainly, one of the finest examples of the Gew 98 Mauser that we have had the privileged to offer to our clients. This is a major find for the serious Mauser collector. The stock is incredibly attractive with lots of figure in the walnut and the cartouches are very sharp and clear. The metal finish is extremely sharp as well.
The 6th Reserve Guard Fusiliers Regiment, participated in the 1914 invasion of Belgium, then fought in Poland, went back to France and were heavily engaged throughout the war. Guard Regiments were the Elite forces of the Imperial German Army. This is a true connoisseur’s Gew 98!
