Description

In 95% factory original condition we have an extremely rare and highly sought after 1937 Production Colt 1911a1 Transition Model US Army Service Pistol.  This example is one of 300 from the second group that was shipped from Colts to Springfield Armory on February 1, 1937.  All of the pistols in this shipment went to the Army.  Only 2,349 pistols were ordered by the Government in 1937, making these pistols exceedingly rare, especially when you factor in those lost in WWII.  This is a completely textbook and orthodox example of Colts very early 1937 Government Contract pistols and it is considered one of the finest know surviving examples.

The blued Government contract Colt 1911a1 Pistols that were procured from 1937-mid 1941 are considered to be the most highly sought after and valuable Military handguns of the 20th Century.  They are the pistols that you hear about bringing tens of thousands of dollars and should certainly considered to be both an investment and an icon of America’s Military heritage.  This is certainly a premier example and would add to the depth of any advanced collection.
