In excellent condition, we have an early 1945 production British Lee Enfield Rifle No5 Mk1, the very well-known Jungle Carbine. This is all matching, and the bore is mint. This was made at BSA Shirley, and it is not import marked. While we call this the Jungle Carbine, the rifle was actually designed for use by airborne troops in Europe. Production began in late 1944 but it never really saw combat anywhere but the Pacific Theater. The most famous use of the weapon was in the Malaysian Emergency of the late 1940’s where they saw considerable action. The model was discontinued in 1947. Today there are a lot of cobbled together fakes on the market but they are not anything like the genuine item. These are probably the most popular Enfield rifles on the market and certainly the most distinctive looking.
