Description

Here we have a stunning example of the Japanese Naval Issue Officers 1896 Pattern Dress Sword.  This is a high grade version with a rayskin scabbard and grip; the mounts are also high quality showing an extremely high amount of gilt.  This sword still has its original parade tassel as well.  This is certainly the finest example of this type of naval sword that we have come across.  Many WW2 era Japanese Naval officers carried this as opposed to the Kai Gunto or the Dirk especially for formal occasions.  Today, this pattern of sword is the official officers Dress Sword of the Japanese Maritime Self Defense Forces.   This is just a very beautiful work of art.
