Description

This would have to rate as the most mysteriously marked rifle of the early Nazi era.  We have a matching 1920/1904 Amberg Mauser Gew,98M (modified) service rifle that has the very enigmatic BS & KS markings in the stock and on the root of the barrel.  No one is exactly sure what this represents but it is highly likely that the BS may stand for the Bahn Schutz, the German Railway Police.  Another clue to this puzzle that this rifle provides is that there are two district or city abbreviations also stamped on the butt, RP & BR which may be Railroad districts or other administrative areas.  Finding this rifle or any of the Gew.98 conversions or reworks in matching condition is just plain impossible, so this in and of it’self is highly important.

For a detailed explanation of these strangely marked rifles please refer to page 111 of Volume 1 of “Karabiner 98k” by Karem and Steves.  If you area an advanced German military rifle collector this is a very important find and one that rarely ever turns up on offer.
