In 90% better than usually found condition we have an extremely rare and very well known Obregón .45 pistol, Mexico’s answer to the Colt 1911. This novel pistol was designed in the early 1930’s by Alejandro Obregón to be a Mexican made Service pistol for the Mexican Armed forces. Production began in 1934 At the Mexican National Arms Factory and only amounted to around 1000 pistols. While it was not officially adopted for use by the Army, it was widely obtained by the Officer Class of the military and policia and the upper crust of Mexican Society. Mechanically the pistol was of a very innovative and novel design with a rotating barrel which was very viable. There were some issues most notably with the one piece slide stop and safety. While it certainly proved to be a functional side arm it was not a significant commercial success at the time. Today like the works of a long dead painter who has risen to prominence it is highly sought after by Colt 1911 collectors. This example is much nicer than many of the surviving examples and many people will find it a highly desirable footnote to the 1911.
