In 97% original very sharp condition, we have a very rare (only 3,115 so marked) US PROPERTY marked Colt 1908 Pocket Hammerless Pistol in .380 caliber. This pistol is US property marked and ordnance wheel stamped and is 100% correct and original. It bears the “M”: in front of the serial number and on the bottom of the mag indicating that it went back to Colts for modifications to correct design defects which effected the operation of the pistol. Collectors generally agree that these guns were primarily issued to Naval Intelligence and it is very likely that this pistol was sent to navy as it is in a known range of pistols so far identified. These pistols were primarily issued to personal of the Bureau of Naval Intelligence and to General Officers of the US Army, but some were sent to the OSS as well. As there were only ever approximately 3,000 of these they are much rare than the US Property marked 1903 Colts. We buy every one we can get our hands on. this comes with a Colt factory letter indicating shipment in November 1944.
