Description

In 96% very sharp condition, and exceptionally fine condition for a Naval pistol, we have a Colt Model of 1911. U.S. Navy Service Pistol.  This pistol is totally correct with all correct factory original parts.  The Pistol was shipped to the U.S. Navy General Storekeeper, U.S. Naval Yard, Brooklyn, New York on March 13, 1915.  The original issue was to Naval Militia.  U.S. Navy Colt Pistols are the most highly sought after Colt Pistols of the WW1 era.  Few were procured as the Navy did not have a large need for these pistols and most of those that were purchased by the Navy ended up on the bottom on the Pacific during the fighting in WW2.  Very few survived the rigors of two world wars and hard service in a marine environment.  Most of the Pistols that are around have been reworked and overhauled to shadows of their original condition or are worn almost to silver with no finish left.  Finding such a well preserved example such as this is not an easy thing to do.  For the most part they have been sitting in long held collections and rarely turn up for sale.  Its been quite a while since we have even has a Colt 1911 U.S. Navy and this is certainly one of the sharpest looking ones that we have seen
