In 95% condition, we have a great War Hero vet bring back Walther made AC42 coded P.38 still with both factory numbered matching mags. This is a very sharp looking all matching pistol with the wear concentrated on the gripstrap. This is an early 1942 production “c” block gun and one of the last Walther P.38’s that was issued with factory numbered magazines. Because so few were made in 1942 with matching mags, this is the hardest variant to locate with a matching mag, let alone still with both of them. This would be an extremely important and highly desirable pistol for any serious P.38 collector, they just never show up with two matching mags. The holster is also 1942 dated and the maker code gfg is not commonly seen, which adds to the rig.
According to the collector that we obtained this from, this pistol was passed on from the family of Sgt., Flavius Miller who served in the 28th division during WW2 and received 3 bronze stars and a purple heart. Family lore has it that the pistol was taken off of a captured German during the Battle of the Bulge and carried by Miller as his side arm during combat for the rest of the war. The 28th division was called the Keystone division or the “bloody bucket” division during WW2 and they fought all across Europe from Normandy to the Hurtgen forest to the Bulge and deep into Germany. This is a great piece of WW2 history.
