If you collect named weapons from WWI this is a very significant find, we have the named Service Revolver of Major Ernest George Fosbury, one of the most Notable Canadian Painters of the 20th Century, who carried this revolver when he served in the Canadian Expeditionary Forces in France during WWI. There is a lot of information about his meritorious service during the war on the internet including photos with his regiment. He was wounded and mentioned in dispatches. After the war he had a very distinguished career in the arts especially as a portrait painter and there is no Government building in Ottawa that does not have one of his paintings hanging on its walls. This whole setup sort of has that Siegfried Sassoon Pathos of the lost generation to it.
In 95% condition this is a Canadian Military issued Smith & Wesson .455 Triple Lock Revolver, all matching with a mint bore, with the issued Canadian Army marked holster and a box of Canadian .455 ammunition. The grips are especially nice on this example. This is a very fine example of a very hard to find Famous Canadian Officer issued Sidearm from World War One.
