Description

In 96% very bright cheerful looking condition, we have a DWM old model 1900 Luger Pistol that has the unusual feature of a factory added #62, 3mm high, prominently on the left side of the receiver.  A very well known and documented handful of these pistols exist, they are said to be numbered 1-100 and are thought by some collectors to have been the Portuguese Army trials Lugers from 1903-04 though this is the likely explanation I am not aware that has ever been completely established or confirmed.  #12 is pictured on page 883 (Vol II) of the Goetz & Sturgess book.

This pistol is all matching and is factory original condition.  It has been known of since at least the 1960’s and has been commented on since that time in articles and other forums.  On its own merits its a very fine example of a very rare old model 1900 Luger and the unusual numbering that was applied at DWM was certainly not done on a whim but for a special and important order and the Portuguese connection is probably a very reasonable assumption.
