In 95% condition we have a very interesting German Navy Luger that served in the Imperial Navy, the Wiemar Era Reichsmarine, and the Nazi Era Kreigsmarine. This is a WWI DWM 1916 dated M1914 6 inch Navy Luger that was double dated with the 1920 as it continued in Service with the Reichsmarine with a 4 inch barrel. It was converted to the standard 4 inch length during the late Wiemar early Nazi era and it has a very early Nazi Kriegsmarine Ost See Fleet Property mark. It is British proofed so it may have been captured or brought back to England during this time. The pistol is all matching except for the un-numbered mag and the bore is nice as well. The identification as a WWI era 6 inch navy is definitive not only from the Crown/M proofmarks but the distinctive large flange toggle used exclusively on Naval Lugers. The pistol was rebuilt in the Wiemar era to the standard 4 inch barrel length.
This Luger is from the famous Sturgess collection and it is pictured on page 639 of the well known book set by him on Borchardt and Luger Pistols, so it is a known Published Pistol that will add to it’s value and allure. One can only speculate on the service history of this Luger but it certainly survived many turbulent years. Â
