In like new in box condition, we have a circa 1972 Smith & Wesson Model 27-2, The .357 Magnum Revolver with a 3.5 inch barrel. This particular example has the target grips, trigger and hammer and a the original Factory Wooden case with all the paperwork. The revolver shows very little signs of use, and is most likely unfired. The condition is exceptionally fine and it certainly has been someone’s safe queen for many many years.
The Model 27 is the direct decedent of the original Registered Magnum of the 1930’s and can be considered as the flagship of the N Frame revolvers, at least until the advent of the .44 magnum. This revolver was considered to be the top of the line .357 revolver for law enforcement well into the 1970’s. Holding a gun this large would make it look like you were holding the flaming sword of an Angel! There is a growing collector market for well preserved Smiths such as this piece and I think a lot of it is driven by nostalgia for the big wheelguns of the 1950’s through the 70’s. These revolvers are some of the best that Smith ever made during that period.
