Some History of WWI
Are you just getting started into the world of collectible antique firearms? Or maybe you’ve been doing it for a while but are branching into different collectibles and aren’t sure which direction to go. There’s a lot of options to consider but, what it really comes down to is what you truly have an interest in. Is it the type of gun? Is it firearms that are made in a specific date range? Is it simply the fact that you collect what draws you in visually then you find out more about it after? Whatever the reason it’s your hobby and we hope that the items we carry can meet atleast one of your interests.
For us, we primarily deal in military firearms from the first half of the 20th century, with a focus on both World Wars. Being history buffs, the weapons and accessories from this era are exciting to us and we love to find out the stories behind them. If you are looking to dive further in to the collecting time frame revolving around WWI then it’s helpful to start from the beginning. As basic as it may appear, brushing up on the true history and facts surrounding the World Wars can help any potential collector realize an interest they have (or don’t).
Let’s dive into some history. “World War I began in 1914, after the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, and lasted until 1918. During the conflict, Germany, Austria-Hungary, Bulgaria and the Ottoman Empire (the Central Powers) fought against Great Britain, France, Russia, Italy, Romania, Japan and the United States (the Allied Powers). Thanks to new military technologies and the horrors of trench warfare, World War I saw unprecedented levels of carnage and destruction.
