In excellent all matching condition, we have a Japanese 1945 production Nagoya Arsenal Made 10th Series Type 99 Service Rifle. These late war rifles are commonly referred to as “Last Ditch Rifles” due to the pressures and desperation of war they are built in a very crude fashion in order to increase production dramatically and conserve resources. These rudimentary rifles are built to the absolute minimum standards needed for functionality with no thought to anything else. The crudity is a striking contrast to the early production variants of this rifle. Finding a late rifle like this that still as the Imperial crest is a bit difficult because most of the ‘Last Ditch Rifles” were still in Japan when the war ended and had the crests ground off in the post war period. This rifle was captured on Okinawa so that is why it is intact.
