Description

This is a great find, it came out of a very venerable old collection.  Still in it’s original context, we have a circa 1942 Japanese Naval Officers Kai-Gunto Sword with the original vet war trophy shipping box and bring back papers. This sword was made by Kane Mitsu who was a Smith of some skill.  The blade does come with a tang translation (Oshigata).  The blade is very nice with no nicks and has a very pronounced wavy temper line.  This is a very decent solid sword with middle of the road grade fittings and mounts with an above average blade.  Of note the vet who brought it back chopped up about $1000 worth of Naval Officer Tassels to make the carry straps between the two hangers on the scabbard.  These days, finding a sword in this state of just brought back originality commands a substantial premium, and they certainly make for an awesome display of a treasured war trophy of the era.
